May’s full name is Jariya O’Brien. She was born in Nakhon Si Thammarat province in Southern Thailand.
May has been cooking all her life, selling food at various markets in Thailand and later in Canada.
In 2003, she earned a certificate in Bakery in Chon Buri, Thailand.
In 2004, May was accepted by competitive application process to the School of Oriental Hotel and Apprenticeship Program. At that time, she was the youngest graduate of the program.
Upon graduation, May worked in five start resorts in Thailand including Chaba Samui Resort and the Amari Hotel.
In 2005, May got her first job in Canada working at the Four Seas Restaurant in Shediac. While this was largely seafood/Canadian cuisine, she easily made the transition to working in Canada.
In 2008, May began selling Pad Thai and Spring Rolls at the Shediac Farmer’s market. A Pad Thai and 2 spring roll combo was $7!
In 2009, May began also selling at the Dieppe Farmer’s market where she remained until opening the food truck in 2013.
In addition to her Chef credentials, May also holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Food Safety Training Certificate, and a Food Handler’s Certificate.
